Cockroaches

Cockroaches can cause food poisoning. If you see a cockroach it is likely you have an infestation in your home.

Cockroaches will leave a musty smell and droppings which are small black spots can be found in cracks and crevices around food storage or warm areas.

 

There are two main species of cockroach found in Britain: 

German cockroach

German cockroach – adults are around 1.5cm in length and are a light brown.

They are good climbers and are often found in warm and humid locations such as kitchens and bathrooms.

 

 

Oriental cockroach - adults are around 3cm in length and are dark brown or black.

They are poor climbers and are often found in cool wet areas such as rubbish heaps and drains.
