How we enable people to remain independent, safe and in control

We aim to help people remain independent, safe and in control of their care by:

To achieve these aims, we work in partnership with other council services, the NHS and the voluntary and independent sectors. We share expertise, maintain high quality standards of care and use resources cost-effectively.

Performance

Adults and Communities works to an annual business plan which forms part of the council's corporate plan. We review progress against performance indicators monthly and quarterly.

We also publish an annual Local Account, which provides information on:

  • the challenges we face and how we are tackling them
  • our successes and areas we are working on
  • how well we have been doing against local and national priorities
  • what some of our service users and carers think about their experiences of adult social care services.

Our commitment to residents

Adults and Communities aim to provide a personal and responsive service to residents, offering them choice and independence.

We have set out the following 8 commitments:

  1. Information and advice about staying independent and how to plan for future care and support needs is available for all residents.
  2. Your Personal Budget is based on your eligible needs and will only change as your needs change.
  3. We will work with you to enable you and your family to maintain your independence.
  4. You have the ‘Right to Control’ your own care and support. Adult Social Care will aim to join up services, whoever provides them, around your eligible needs.
  5. Family carers will be recognised as partners in care and be supported to continue in their caring role.
  6. Financial contributions towards meeting the costs of care will always be based on an individual’s ability to pay with a clear breakdown of how your contribution has been calculated.
  7. We will respond quickly to keep adults at risk safe from harm when we receive concerns.
  8. Adult Social Care staff who work with you will be professional in their approach, appropriately trained and caring.

If you feel we're not delivering on any of these, please let us know. Use our comments, compliments and complaints for details of how to do this.

The Adults and Communities Delivery Unit (known as 'Adults and Communities') supports people in Barnet who have social care needs.
