Community safety volunteering
Barnet Borough Watch
Borough Watch is the umbrella organisation of Neighbourhood Watch areas in Barnet. It helps Neighbourhood Watch street co-ordinators run their groups effectively.
It aims to help people protect themselves and their properties and to reduce the fear of crime by means of improved home security, greater vigilance, accurate reporting of suspicious incidents to the police and by fostering a community spirit.
Barnet Victim Support
Barnet Victim Support provides free emotional support and practical help to anyone living in Barnet who has been a victim of crime or have been affected by a crime committed against someone you know.
Victim Support volunteers receive training to support victims through the justice system, to listen to their concerns and needs and potentially co-ordinate with other agencies to make sure that their needs are met.
Witness Service volunteers are trained to deal sensitively with both defence and prosecution witnesses to be able to provide a friendly face, support and information during a trial
Witness Service is provided by the Citizens Advice Bureau
Barnet Police are always keen to welcome residents who want to get involved in frontline police work, for example, as a special constable or cadet.
