Recycling in schools

Barnet has 118 schools and we are committed to supporting them reduce their waste, and reuse and recycle more through our free recycling collection service.

Recycling facilities for schools

We offer a free weekly recycling collection service to all Barnet schools and accept different recycling materials mixed together with no need to sort them.

Mixed recycling 

You can put all of following items in your green or blue recycling bins (these should be labelled with the 'Recycling' sticker below):

  • mixed paper and cardboard
  • mixed glass bottles and jars
  • cartons
  • food tins, drink cans, foil and aerosols
  • plastic packaging, including yogurt pots, margarine tubs and food trays

Green garden waste

We offer a free garden waste collection every 2 weeks to all schools in the borough. The first green bin for garden waste is free of charge but additional bins will cost £55.60 each.

Please note food waste can no longer be disposed of in the green bin due to a change to our waste recovery and composting systems. More information on food waste recycling is below.

Food waste recycling

We offer a free weekly food waste collection service to all Barnet schools. Food waste is collected in either a green or blue bin labelled with the sticker below. We collect any cooked and uncooked food including:

  • Bread, pastries, pastas, rice
  • Dairy
  • Fish
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Meat and bones
  • Tea and coffee grounds
