Who can get a care leaver discount

From 22nd February 2023 if you are a Barnet Care Leaver, resident in Barnet, and liable for council tax, you may be able to receive 100% discount on your council tax until the end of the financial year (31st March) following your 25th birthday.

Eligibility Criteria

To get the care leaver discount:

  • You must be a Young Person over 18 who was previously looked after by Barnet Council for at least 13 weeks – for full definition please see the Policy (link to Policy)
  • You must be liable to pay council tax in Barnet, so your name must appear on a Barnet Council Tax bill
  • You must have applied for all other discounts and exemptions, such as single person discount (if you live alone) or student exemption (if you are a full-time student)
  • You must have applied for Council Tax Support

How to apply

Your personal advisor (PA) at Onwards and Upwards will be able to support you with the application.
