Sense Children’s Specialist Services is a team of specialist advisory teachers, children’s therapists and Children’s and Family Support Workers who have a wide experience of working with children who are deafblind/multi-sensory impaired. Our extensive knowledge of multi- sensory impairment means we can focus on what the child can do and what they need to help them develop further. Our aim is to always start with what a child is able to do and then look at how that can be built on. When we support a family we begin by finding out what their key issues are and work in partnership with the family (and other professionals) to help resolve these. We aim to identify and support the needs of deafblind children, young people and their families so that their needs are identified and met. The Service offers a range of charitable and funded services, training and consultancy.

In Barnet, Sense Children’s Specialist Services has recently opened The Hadley Family Centre. This purpose-designed family centre opened in early 2015 The centre has been converted and refurbished and re-designed to turn it into a modern, homely and fully accessible centre for deafblind children, young people and their families. The centre has a number of different rooms each providing a different environment for children to explore. We have a Sensory Room, Garden Room, Kitchen, Toy Library, and Living Room. The Centre holds weekly pre-school group for deafblind / multi-sensory impaired children and their parents / carers, called Sparkles. The group runs every week on Tuesdays between 10.30am and 12.30pm. As a new centre we are talking to parents about other groups and ways of making best use of the centre to support them.
