Barnet boundary

Hello, The Boundary of Barnet in the West almost exactly follows the A5 road, apart from a part in West Hendon/Welsh Harp when it crosses the A5 into Brent . Why is this part of Barnet, not Brent when it is west of the A5 road, unlike the rest of the borough ?
