Barnet Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Janet Djomba as its new Director of Public Health.

A public health professional with over 15 years of experience, Dr Djomba joined the council in 2019. She became Deputy Director of Public Health in Autumn 2022 and has been the acting Director of Public Health since the departure of her predecessor in December last year.

The Public Health team works with council departments and partners to reduce health inequalities in the borough and ensure that everyone who lives, works or studies locally can achieve their full health and wellbeing potential.

Priorities include supporting children’s health, increasing vaccination and cancer screening uptake, strengthening mental health and other community health initiatives, smoking cessation support and health checks in the community.

The guiding principle for the team is ‘Health in all policies’ to ensure health and wellbeing is considered in every council policy, making Barnet a healthy and safe place to be for all.
