On the 75th anniversary of the NHS, in Barnet and across the country, people are celebrating and reflecting on the contribution the NHS has made and continues to make to people’s lives.

Dr Tamara Djuretic is the council’s Joint Director of Public Health and Prevention, and has worked in the NHS throughout her entire career. She said:
“The 75th anniversary of the NHS is a great opportunity to reflect on the incredible work of all clinical and non-clinical staff that work passionately and with a commitment to save lives and keep people healthy and well as long as possible.
“Over 1.3 million people are seen in England every day and the NHS is a crucial part of all our lives across the country and here in Barnet.
“On a personal level, as someone who has been working in and alongside the NHS for my entire working career, it has been a truly rewarding experience and I feel very humble to be part of such an amazing and unique organisation through thick and thin.
“I think I speak for everyone who works at Barnet Council in saying congratulations and happy 75th anniversary to the NHS, and I hope everyone can enjoy celebrating all that it stands for.”
Dawn Wakeling, Barnet Council’s Executive Director of Communities, Adults and Health, also paid tribute. She said:
“I want to wish all NHS colleagues the best on this milestone 75th birthday. I have worked for the NHS, in hospitals and community health, and have seen first-hand the dedication of our NHS staff who work every day, 24 hours a day, to save people’s lives. Even now, when services are under so much pressure, our NHS continues to be a vital support for us all.
“The social care system as we know it was also created at the same time as the NHS, in 1948. I also want to pay tribute to the dedication of social care workers, who provide essential care to people who need it.”
