Proposals have been released this week to create a 17-mile walking and cycling loop around most of the borough of Barnet, to help encourage more sustainable travel and improve connectivity across the borough.

The Barnet Loop will enable residents to have better access to parks, green spaces, schools and a range of other amenities – and when completed will form part of TfL’s cycleways network.

From Thursday 18 July until Friday 30 August, residents will have the opportunity to have their say on the proposals, look at the provisional route and give their feedback and comments on the plans before they are fully confirmed.

The Barnet Loop is being created in response to resident feedback, which revealed that people who live in Barnet would like more opportunities to walk and cycle frequently to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. By encouraging residents to undertake more active travel options, it is also helping the council to work towards its goal of being a net zero borough by 2042.

Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “I am excited to see the plans for the Barnet Loop developing, and urge residents to have a look at the route and give us your views before the engagement closes on 30 August.

“Having a comprehensive, safe and attractive route to walk, cycle or wheel through the borough will really help many of us to make more active travel choices and enable access to some of Barnet’s most beautiful landscapes.”
