Volunteers have been honoured for their outstanding service to the local community at the 24th annual Barnet Civic Awards.
The ceremony, which took place at Hendon Town Hall last night (March 20), recognised individuals and organisations for their contributions to fundraising, healthcare support, tackling poverty and other forms of service to improve the quality of life in their local community.
This year’s awards were divided into three categories: Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Service to the Community and Barnet’s Young Citizen of the Year.
Twenty-four awards were presented: eleven Civic Awards and 13 Certificate Scrolls of Recognition.
Barnet Council’s Chief Executive, John Hooton, and councillors read the individual citations submitted for each of the nominees, describing how they had made considerable voluntary contributions to the borough, before announcing their award.
The awards were presented by The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Nagus Narenthira, who said: “It was an immense privilege to be able to recognise this year’s award winners for the significant and lasting impact they have made through their work.
“I am very grateful to the many people who took the time to nominate such worthy individuals and organisations for recognition.
“Barnet is fortunate to have so many residents and organisations who are dedicated to serving their community. I would like to thank the award winners and all the other individuals and organisations across the borough who voluntarily give their time supporting others in the community and making Barnet such a great place to live.”
