Susanne and Leanne’s Story

Susanne, an individual with care needs wanted to move out of her parents' home, at the age of 26.  Susanne realised she wanted more independence to go out into the community and explore. The only option offered to Susanne at the time of her transition was a residential care home.  Understandably, being in her twenties, Susanne didn't want to live with people who would be much older than her.

Samantha and James’ Story

James, a non-verbal individual with autism requires fulltime support for his daily life.  James has been under the care of his loving parents, who had been looking after him since his birth.  Due to their own advancing years, his parents needed to look into future plans, to continue to provide and support their son.

Ivan’s Story

Ivan began his journey with the Shared Lives Service in Moray several years ago, where he had been diagnosed with dementia and frailty.  Ivan’s diagnosis and symptoms also included macular degeneration, subsequent gradual loss of sight, and short-term memory loss.

Jamison and Andrew’s Story

Jamison has been living under a Shared Lives arrangement with Andrew and his family for nearly eight years.  Prior to this arrangement, Jamison had been in a specialist home for over 20 years, due to suffering with epilepsy. Jamison feels like he “now has the freedom to do the things that I enjoy, when I want to do them, just like most other people. I can choose to go out, without telling anyone, and meet friends in my favourite cafe. I can do most things for myself but can get help when I need it.”
