The consultation, which runs until Thursday 28 October, will gather views on proposals to renew an additional licensing scheme for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), along with the introduction of new selective licensing schemes to regulate other privately rented properties. The aim is to improve and maintain the condition and management of private rented accommodation for the benefit of tenants, landlords and residents in general, and to reduce deprivation, anti-social behaviour and crime associated with the private rented sector.

Barnet Council and Tarmac Kier apologise for travel disruption

Tarmac Kier – a joint venture between the companies Tarmac and Kier Highways – was conducting the work for the council as part of a 36-month highways maintenance and improvement contract. We are pleased to announce the creation of a new woodland which will offer a space of reflection and healing to all residents. The woodland will include new walkways and a seating area and will be open freely to everyone, all-year round. Thriving new development one step closer to reality

Planning applications for a new development project in Hendon have now been submitted to the local planning authority. This is an important milestone for the project and follows the approval of the full business case by Councillors in July. Decisions on the submitted plans are expected to be taken later this year.
Local people of Colindale invited to rename new Square

The square, which has been designed and built to a high standard using high-quality materials, includes a flagpole for national recognition related activities and a new public indoor café on the ground floor of the Colindale office. The council has taken the decision to rename the new square through public consultation and is inviting people that live, work and visit the area to get involved and vote on a new name.
Barnet launches Suicide Prevention Campaign

National suicide rates are increasing. The latest local data suggest that, between 2016 and 2019, Barnet lost eighty-nine people to suicide: on average one person every sixteen days. There is no conclusive data yet nationally or locally, but it is possible that effects of the pandemic and social restrictions will have longer-term impact on mental health and wellbeing.
