Barnet A-Level and vocational students celebrate exam success

Barnet students celebrated their A-level and vocational results today (17 August), with many schools across the borough having reported achieving their best ever results.

This was the first official set of exams this cohort of students sat, after GCSE examinations were cancelled in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 academic years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Barnet Council signs agreement with Redrow to acquire 249 new homes for affordable rent

In June, the council’s Cabinet Members voted unanimously to make the purchase, which forms one-quarter of the council’s commitment to deliver 1,000 new affordable homes by 2026. Most of the new homes will be made available for rent starting in October 2023 with the remainder following in January 2024.

Barnet Council sows seeds of innovation with Interactive Tree Portal

Barnet Council has launched its interactive tree portal, a significant marker in the council’s ambition to become a net zero council by 2030 and a net zero borough by 2042.

The portal, which is now live, has an interactive map, allowing unprecedented access to information about all the trees in Barnet on public land. The map also allows residents to submit a tree enquiry for the council to investigate.

Barnet Council to tackle potholes as part of £8million additional investment in road maintenance

A further £8million will be spent on road maintenance over the next two years to help deal with potholes and the maintenance of highways, as Cllrs voted it through at Barnet Council’s Cabinet meeting last night, 18 July 2023.

The new investment is in response to the 2022/23 winter period when the number of potholes reported jumped almost 95% to 3699 compared to the previous winter period which saw 1896 reported for repair.
