Barnet Council is supporting independent built environment network Future of London, on its exciting new employment opportunity for London’s ethnic minority communities, to help launch careers in housing, regeneration and development.
The government has granted £1,510,000 towards a new housing development in Hendon and £270,000 towards the Little Strand affordable homes in Colindale.
The decision follows a second tendering process after the contract was first offered to the Whittington Health NHS Trust in 2020. The Whittington Health NHS Trust subsequently withdraw its bid, resulting in the council needing to extend the contract with the existing provider, Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The second tendering process was broadened to include both NHS and non-NHS providers.
The park is set to reopen in full by mid-November with other attractions including an outdoor gym, table tennis, fixed chess tables and new fruit trees in a scenic blossom orchard. There will be wildflower areas, and a picnic area with garden tables – plus more. Additional enhancements also include new cycle and pedestrian paths, bins, benches, trees, plants and swale drainage to help rainwater leave paths to be absorbed by grass.
In the lead up to COP26, and following the government’s announcement of its Net Zero Strategy, the Leader of Barnet Council has released a statement on sustainability in Barnet.
Cllr Dan Thomas, Leader of Barnet Council, said: “Across London, we have seen how climate change is playing a role in extreme weather events, such as storms and flooding.
The area is at the heart of our plans for the new park town Brent Cross Town. We want to transform it into one of north London’s most significant parks, a place where people can relax and enjoy green spaces, grab a coffee, and meet with friends. It will be a place where anyone, regardless of age, gender or ability can participate in active play and sport, or enjoy as a spectator.
That vision means offering a wide variety of new sports and play facilities that are accessible to all, as well as clear and safe routes throughout the fields and a pavilion.
The last 18 months have taught us just how important being online can be in terms of social interactivity and keeping in touch with friends and loved ones. For many of us, being able to access services online is a given, however, there are still people across Barnet who do not have the skills to do so. A lack of digital skills can have huge negative impacts, including poorer health and well-being, social isolation, and less access to jobs and education.
