New Barnet Library building opens

The move means the library changes its name and is now situated in a new space in the leisure centre, equipped with improved computer facilities, an on-site café and increased parking.

The library, which opened in its new location on 24 September, is one of two partnership libraries in the borough to managed by the charity Inclusion Barnet.

Activities Matter - helping our care providers keep residents active

The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Caroline Stock, attended the event on Tuesday 3 September, which was at Middlesex University. See her have a go on the Motiview exercise bike, where residents can cycle – digitally – to wherever they’d like to go.

Mohammed Facey, aged 82, who also tried it out on Tuesday, said: “I found the Motiview exercise bike easy to use. I’d like to use it again!”

Finchley Lido Swimming Pool temporary closure – update

Barnet Council and GLL would like to apologise to customers for the extended closure of the pools at Finchley Lido Leisure Centre.

In the interest of customer safety, the council made the decision to close public access to the pool in March 2019 to complete essential roof repairs, which were identified as part of a condition survey.

Pupils celebrate GCSE exam success

This year sees the continuation of the new nationwide system for measuring students’ attainment (using a points scale of 9-1) as well as ‘Attainment 8’ and ‘Progress 8’, which measure the achievement of a pupil across eight qualifications including English and Mathematics.

Results so far show the average Attainment 8 score in Barnet is 58.8 points compared to the national average in 2018 of 47.4 points. This is a three point increase on Barnet’s score in 2018.
