Barnet Council and GLL would like to apologise to customers for the extended closure of the pools at Finchley Lido Leisure Centre. In the interest of customer safety, the council made the decision to close public access to the pool in March 2019 to complete essential roof repairs, which were identified as part of a condition survey.

The event, which is sponsored by Oracle, recognises the outstanding contribution and impact apprentices make across London local government.

The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Caroline Stock, attended the event on Tuesday 3 September, which was at Middlesex University. See her have a go on the Motiview exercise bike, where residents can cycle – digitally – to wherever they’d like to go. Mohammed Facey, aged 82, who also tried it out on Tuesday, said: “I found the Motiview exercise bike easy to use. I’d like to use it again!”

New Barnet Leisure Centre, in the heart of the local community within Victoria Recreation Ground will operate as a cashless facility and features a range of new modern innovations. Residents can now enjoy access to a learner pool, 25m six-lane community pool, café, health and fitness suite, two studios, two health improvement rooms, a partnership library, outdoor tennis courts, a multi-use games area, and a new and improved area for children and young people.

Detailed plans are still being finalised, but the works are expected to start in November, and are likely to last up to six months. The council’s primary focus is on delivering a solution that best enables it to run its street scene services with minimum disruption. The council is currently exploring a number of changes to operations, including weekend working.
