We’re beyond proud to have facilitated a striking, colourful community mural with the support of Brent Cross Shopping Centre, Pines and Needles, and most importantly the students and art department of Whitefield Secondary School and Sixth Form.

The consultation, which runs until Thursday 28 October, will gather views on proposals to renew an additional licensing scheme for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), along with the introduction of new selective licensing schemes to regulate other privately rented properties. The aim is to improve and maintain the condition and management of private rented accommodation for the benefit of tenants, landlords and residents in general, and to reduce deprivation, anti-social behaviour and crime associated with the private rented sector.

Barnet Council is standing with other local authorities to provide accommodation for refugees fleeing the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Cllr Dan Thomas, Leader of Barnet Council, has announced:

Tarmac Kier – a joint venture between the companies Tarmac and Kier Highways – was conducting the work for the council as part of a 36-month highways maintenance and improvement contract.  Councillor Dean Cohen, Chair of the Environment Committee, said: “Managing our road network effectively is a key priority for the council. We are pleased to announce the creation of a new woodland which will offer a space of reflection and healing to all residents. The woodland will include new walkways and a seating area and will be open freely to everyone, all-year round. Many lives were lost since the start of the pandemic and we wish for our new woodland to help bring our community together as well as inspire hope and possibility for the future.

Barnet-based community groups can apply for a grants from the £320,000 Community Innovation Fund from 1 October.

Planning applications for a new development project in Hendon have now been submitted to the local planning authority. This is an important milestone for the project and follows the approval of the full business case by Councillors in July. Decisions on the submitted plans are expected to be taken later this year.

The square, which has been designed and built to a high standard using high-quality materials, includes a flagpole for national recognition related activities and a new public indoor café on the ground floor of the Colindale office. The council has taken the decision to rename the new square through public consultation and is inviting people that live, work and visit the area to get involved and vote on a new name.
