Top marks for Barnet pupils

Provisional results from the Department for Education show pupils in the borough performed extremely well when based on Progress 8 scores which gauge the progress made by each student during their time at secondary school, placing them top nationally out of 151 local authorities.

This represents a considerable challenge in Barnet, a borough with over 30,000 street trees. The annual leaf fall from these trees is largely weather dependant and therefore unpredictable. As such a sustained effort is needed across many weeks to clear leaves from footways and highways during Autumn and Winter.

Planning enforcement after pub demolition

The owners of a former pub who demolished the building leaving a boarded-up, vacant site on a busy high street have been told to take action or face having to rebuild the demolished building.The former ‘After Office Hours’ pub, located on the busy High Street in High Barnet, was demolished shortly after receiving planning permission in 2017 to clear the way for a project to replace it with a three-storey building incorporating a bar and homes on the upper floors.
