There will be two mental health awareness talks as part of the Barnet Libraries Service’s Health and Wellbeing Month – the May theme of its wider Year of Learning. The first – by Jayne Abbott from the council’s Public Health team – will be at Chipping Barnet Library from 3-4pm on Friday (17 May). The second will be at Colindale Library from 3-4pm on Wednesday 22 May.

The final was held at St James’ Park, Newcastle, and saw Saracens beat Leinster 20-10, despite being 10 points behind for nearly half of the game. Barnet roads are vital to support travel, including travelling by bus or cycle, and to support local businesses and employment. Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) are used as a deterrent to reduce inconsiderate parking, encouraging road users to drive responsibly and improving accessibility for all road users, including Blue Badge holders. They also help reduce traffic congestion on our roads which harms our environment through engine idling, noise and makes our borough a less pleasant place to be.

Barnet Council advises and assists local communities in the preparation of their Neighbourhood Development Plans. A Neighbourhood Development Plan is a statutory planning document setting out general planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood. The council is also responsible for approving the designated areas for the plans and designating Neighbourhood Area Forums to develop the plans.

During her mayoral year Councillor Stock’s husband, Dr Richard Stock, will be the Mayor’s Consort and Councillor Lachhya Bahadur Gurung will be Deputy Mayor. Councillor Stock takes over the chains of office from the borough’s previous Mayor, Councillor Reuben Thompstone for whom she also served as Deputy Mayor. Born and raised in Barnet, Councillor Stock was first elected to Barnet Council in 2014 as ward member for Totteridge.

Councillor Thomas is taking over the leadership of the council from Councillor Richard Cornelius. Councillor Thomas has been Deputy Leader since 2011, as well as Chairman of the Assets, Regeneration and Growth Committee, and is a ward councillor for Finchley Church End. Councillor David Longstaff will serve as Deputy Leader to Councillor Thomas. Councillor Richard Cornelius will become Chair of the Assets, Regeneration and Growth Committee.

Better, in partnership with Barnet Council, apologises to customers for the temporary closure of the swimming pools at Finchley Lido Leisure Centre. The pools have been closed to facilitate essential roof works within the pool hall. During this time significant facility improvements have been brought forward to create a better experience for all customers.
