Feedback invited on Hendon Hub proposals

Working in partnership with Middlesex University and the Barnet Library Service, the proposals will provide new mixed-use accommodation and community facilities to Hendon, as well as a more welcoming and greener public realm designed with local people in mind.

Nicole Alison Richer of the Conservatives has been elected the new councillor for East Barnet ward following the by-election on 6 May 2021. Nicole Alison Richer will fill the vacancy that resulted from the resignation of Cllr Jo Cooper.

Nick Mearing-Smith of the Conservatives has been elected the new councillor for Edgware ward following the by-election on 6 May 2021. Nick Mearing-Smith will fill the vacancy that resulted from the passing of Cllr Brian Gordon in autumn 2020.

StoneX Stadium running track transformed in fight against COVID-19

Now it has been transformed into a large scale vaccination centre, run by the Royal Free London, to vaccinate thousands of people in the fight against COVID-19.

Originally part of the Olympic Stadium, the track was transported to StoneX after the London 2012 Olympics, where it is used by local people as an indoor athletics training centre and events space.

Helping Barnet's women and girls stay safe

It is also important to stress that while violent crimes are still being committed, London remains one of the safest cities in the world. The Metropolitan Police have established a number of different initiatives to keep our borough safe, including the specialist Predatory Offender Units to arrest and charge those who carry out violence.

While we continuously work on preventative measures to stop these crimes from happening, we hope that women and girls of all ages across Barnet find this booklet useful. 

Surge testing completed in Finchley

Door-to-door testing in N3 has now been completed. The Mobile Testing Unit in the car park in Finchley Central Station has also closed.

All positive COVID-19 tests from our targeted testing in N3 will be sent for genomic sequencing. This will help us to understand the spread of COVID-19 variants locally.

Deputy Mayor lays wreath to mark 550th anniversary of Battle of Barnet

Hadley Highstone is a Grade II-listed plinth-mounted stone obelisk, located at the junction of Kitts End Road and the A1000 in Chipping Barnet, and dates back to 1740. Barnet Council’s recent cleaning and conservation works helped return the structure to its original state ahead of the ceremony to mark the battle, fought on 14 April 1471. The surrounding area is protected as London’s only registered battlefield site.

Discover Barnet campaign urges residents to ‘shop local and shop safely’

Barnet’s residents are being urged to ‘shop local and shop safely’ in a campaign from Barnet Council to support businesses in the borough’s high streets and town centres when they reopen from 12 April.

The Discover Barnet campaign will run into the summer, encouraging residents to support local business owners to ensure Barnet’s high streets are able to overcome the damage the past year has done, and give them the support they need for a positive and thriving future.

Surge testing to be deployed in Finchley where the variant first identified in South Africa has been found

Working in partnership with NHS Test and Trace, every person living in affected postcodes in Finchley N3 over the age of 16 is strongly encouraged to take a PCR COVID-19 test, even if they are not showing symptoms. Check if your N3 postcode is in the affected area.
